"You have heard
of the patience of Job," remarks the Epistle of James,
The land of Uz was perhaps made most famous by Job, a
very righteous man, as described by God Himself (Job
1:8), who lost everything - his family, his health and
his great wealth - in a severe test that God allowed
Satan to inflict upon him. After it was over, God
restored it all, and much more, back to him.
The Land of
Uz
The Book of Job is
considered one of the earliest books of the Old
Testament.and is the first of five books called "The
Books of Poetry" (the others are Psalms, Proverbs,
Ecclesiastes and The Song of Solomon). The story of Job
takes place sometime between Noah and Moses.
Job was an Arabian
patriarch who resided in the land of Uz While living in
the midst of great prosperity, he was suddenly
overwhelmed by a series of sore trials that fell upon
him. Amid all his sufferings he maintained his integrity.
Once more God visited him with the rich tokens of his
goodness and even greater prosperity than he had enjoyed
before. He survived after the period of trial for one
hundred and forty years, and died in a good old age, an
example to succeeding generations of integrity (Ezek.
14:14, 20) and of submissive patience under the sorest
calamities (James 5:11). His history is recorded in his
book.

The
setting of the story is given in Job 1:1 &
2:13
First
action
Job 1:7-22: When the
sons of God appear before God 1:6-12, Satan is among
them. God calls attention to Job as being perfect and
upright; Satan counters by saying that Job only serves
God for what God does for him. God gives Satan the right
to strip Job of his wealth and children. Job maintains
his integrity, "Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and
naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD
hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD." In all
this Job sinned not, nor charged God
foolishly.
Second
Action
Job 2:2-10: Satan
again appears before God with the sons of God; God again
calls attention to Job's integrity. Satan again accuses
Job of serving God for the benefits it brings him, and is
given permission to afflict him but not to take his life.
Job is so afflicted with a skin disease, here called
"boils," that he cannot be around people. He sits on the
ash heap, and uses broken pieces of pottery to scrape off
the dried pus that oozes from his sores.
His
wife suggests that he curse God and die. Job replies,
"Thou speakest as one of the foolish women...Shall we
receive good at the hand of God;, and shall we not
receive evil?" In all this did not Job sin with his
lips.
Third
Action
Job's three friends
(Eliphaz, Bildad & Zophar) visit him, and sit on the
ground with him for seven days and seven nights, saying
nothing at all to Job. After the seven days, Job cursed
the day he was born, 3:1-26.
The three friends
deliver their speeches and Job answers, calling his
friends "miserable comforters. 16:2 At the end of
Bildad's third speech Job answers at length, summarizing
and repeating his claims of innocence, 26:1 through
31:40....... "The words of Job are ended."
When the older men no
longer attempt to refute Job, a younger man, Elihu,
continues their case against Job for a lengthy speech.
32:1 through 37:24.
Fourth
Action
Then God takes over,
speaking in 38:1 through 41:34. Job briefly answers,
42:1-6, ending with, "I uttered that I understood not;
things too wonderful for me, which I knew not. ...I have
heard of thee by the hearing of the ear: but now mine
eyes seeth thee. Wherefore I abhor myself, and repent in
dust and ashes."
And the LORD said to
Job's three friends, 42:8 "Take unto you now seven
bullocks and seven rams, and go to my servant Job, and
offer up for yourselves a burnt offering; and my servant
Job shall pray for you: for him will I accept: lest I
deal with you after your folly, in that ye have not
spoken of me the thing which is right, like my servant
Job."
And the LORD turned
the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his friends:
also the LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before.
42:10 And God gave him a new family as numerous as the
first.

ARE
DINOSAURS MENTIONED IN THE BIBLE ?
In the book of Job we
read of two creatures which were created by God and were
known to Job. How do we know that Job knew them? When you
give an illustration to someone, you use things that they
know about, not things they don't know anything about.
God does the same thing. In the book of Job He is giving
an illustration to Job using these creatures. They must
also have been known by those who wrote the King James
Version of the Bible as they called these creatures by
name. Here is what God tells Job:-.....
"Behold now behemoth, which I made
with thee; he eateth grass as an ox. Lo now, his strength
is in his loins, and his force is in the navel of his
belly. He moveth his tail like a cedar: the sinews of his
stones are wrapped together. His bones are as strong
pieces of brass; his bones are like bars of iron. He is
the chief of the ways of God: he that made him can make
his sword to approach unto him.
Surely the mountains bring him
forth food, where all the beasts of the field play. He
lieth under the shady trees, in the covert of the reed,
and fens. The shady trees cover him with their shadow;
the willows of the brook compass him about. Behold, he
drinketh up a river, and hasteth not: he trusteth that he
can draw up Jordan into his mouth. He taketh it with his
eyes: his nose pierceth through snares." ...
Job 40:15-24.
"Canst thou draw out
leviathan with an hook? or his tongue with a cord which
thou lettest down? Canst
thou put an hook into his nose? or bore his jaw through
with a thorn? Will he make many supplications unto thee?
will he speak soft words unto thee? Will he make a
covenant with thee? wilt thou take him for a servant for
ever? Wilt thou play with him as with a bird? or wilt
thou bind him for thy maidens? Shall the companions make
a banquet of him? shall they part him among the
merchants? Canst thou fill his skin with barbed irons? or
his head with fish spears ? Lay thine hand upon him,
remember the battle, do no more.
Behold, the hope of him is in vain:
shall not one be cast down even at the sight of him? None
is so fierce that dare stir him up: who then is able to
stand before me?
Out of his mouth go burning
lamps, and sparks of fire leap out. Out of his nostrils
goeth smoke, as out of a seething pot or caldron. His
breath kindleth coals, and a flame goeth out of his
mouth. In his neck remaineth strength, and sorrow is
turned into joy before him.
...Job 41
Look up Behemoth in most
Bible Commentaries and they will tell you that it is an
elephant or a hippopotamus. How many elephants or
hippopotami have you seen with a tail like a cedar tree?
If we are honest with ourselves we will admit that the
description does not fit these animals. But read the
description again looking at the picture above
What about the second
creature that Job describes, Leviathan. Bible
Commentaries will tell you it is a whale or crocodile. In
Job 41:10 God asks Job "who is so fierce that they dare
to stir up Leviathan?" He has terrible teeth; scales so
close together that air cannot get in between; fire comes
out of his mouth, and smoke from his nostrils; neither
spear, dart or arrow can hurt him; he is so strong that
to him iron is like straw, brass is as rotten wood, darts
are as stubble; and he stirs up the sea like a boiling
pot. This description is definitely not that of a whale
or crocodile which mankind has hunted and killed for many
years, and neither of these has fire coming out of it's
mouth or smoke from their nostrils. .....
Leviathan is mentioned in two other
places in the Bible. The first is in Psalms 104:25,
26:- "So is this great and
wide sea, wherein are things creeping innumerable, both
small and great beasts. There go the ships: there is that
leviathan, whom thou hast made to play
therein."
The second place is in
Isaiah 27:1:- .... "In that
day the LORD with his sore and great and strong sword
shall punish leviathan the piercing serpent, even
leviathan that crooked serpent; and he shall slay the
dragon that is in the sea."
We do know of somebody who
was there when they came into existence, and He has left
a written record about what happened for all who wish to
be informed, to read. The person is God and the book is
the Bible.....In the first
chapter of Genesis we read how God created the world. On
day one He made light; day two the firmament; day three
the dry land and plants; day four the sun, moon and
stars; day five all the fowls of the air and the
creatures of the sea; day six all land dwelling creatures
and mankind; and day seven He made a day of rest to be a
commemoration of His creative work.....
So according to the written record
of what happened all the dinosaurs which includes flying
birds, creatures of the sea, as well of the lizard like
ones were all created on day five and six of creation.
Mankind was made the same day as the lizard like one and
would have walked with them.
Why then is the
word dinosaur not written in the Bible?
The reason is because Sir
Richard Owen, in 1842, a British paleontologist,
introduced the term Dinosauria (from two Greek words
which means "terrible lizard") into the scientific
literature. He used it as a name at the level of an order
in the classification of animals to designate a variety
of reptiles known at that time from collections of fossil
bones discovered in Europe and North America. Since then,
the less formal word "dinosaur" has come into general
usage to denote large, extinct reptiles. But God's Word,
the King James Version of the Bible was translated in
1611, more than 200 years before this word was introduced
to the English language.
Throughout the Bible the Devil
is depicted as a serpent or dragon, and the Lord will
definitely punish him for all of what he has done.
.... But getting back to Leviathan,
what is it? He is obviously a very large, fierce sea
dwelling creature which brought fear into the hearts of
even the strongest men. He could also be described as a
sea dwelling dragon. ..... A
dragon? Most people have heard of the fairy tales of
dragons and knights in shining armor from the British
Isles. Then there are the very beautifully decorated,
colourful Chinese dragons which they use in many of their
celebrations. But how many stop to think that this land
or sea dwelling monster is spoken of in the Bible. These
three different cultures have, in their own way,
preserved the memory of dragons which are extinct
today. ....How are the fairy
tale dragons often described? They are large lizard like
creatures, covered in scales, breath fire from their
mouths, smoke from their noses, have wings for flying and
terrify even the bravest of men. Very similar to
leviathan. Maybe these fairy tales are actually
historical records of man's encounters with dinosaurs
that has been slightly exaggerated over time.
......The word dragon or dragons is
mentioned 34 times in the Bible. As we have already
mentioned above some of these texts don't relate to the
creatures themselves, but to that old serpent, that great
dragon, called the Devil and Satan.
"Thou didst divide the sea by
thy strength: thou brakest the heads of the dragons in
the waters. Thou brakest the heads of leviathan in
pieces, and gavest him to be meat to the people
inhabiting the wilderness." Psalms 74:13, 14.
..... "In that day the LORD with
his sore and great and strong sword shall punish
leviathan the piercing serpent, even leviathan that
crooked serpent; and he shall slay the dragon that is in
the sea." Isaiah 27:1. ...... In
Revelation 16:13. "And he laid hold
on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and
Satan, and bound him a thousand years," Revelation 20:2.
So although the word dinosaur is
not mentioned in the Bible, there are terrible lizards of
both land and sea dwelling kinds mentioned in it, such as
Leviathan, Behemoth and dragons. All of these creatures
were made by God on days 5 and 6 of creation. God's Word
is sure, He cannot lie.
