LITERAL & MYSTERY BABYLON

Babylon

Nimrod Fonded Literal Babylon, located in southern Iraq on the plains of Shinar (Genesis 10:10) where people migrated after the Flood and he built the Tower of Babel. Babylonia was divided into Accad to the north, and Sumer ("Shinar" of the Old Testament) to the south. Along with Ur and the city of Babylon itself, other major cities were Uruk, or Erech , Larsa, or Ellasar, Sepharvaim, Eridu, and Calneh.

The Babylonian Empire (see artist's concept at left) existed from 606 to 539 B.C. and fully conquered the southern kingdom of Judah in 586 B.C. It was then that the Babylonians under the rule of King Nebuchadnezzar completely devastated the city of Jerusalem, looted and burned the original Temple of God, built by Solomon and carried the people of Judah, including the prophets Daniel and Ezekiel, off into captivity.

The Babylonian Empire
This was the Empire that broke the power of Assyria, and, in its westward sweep, destroyed Judah, and conquered Egypt. This empire lasted 73 years (612-539 B.C.). The 70 year prophecy runs from the fall of Jerusalem in 587 B.C. until 517 B.C. at the worship rededication in the Restoration Temple. Cyrus, king of Persia, conquered Babylon in 539 B.C., in 538 B.C. he authorized the return of the Jews to their own land. First return was in 536 B.C.

The Empire's capital was in Babylon. In Isaiah's time Assyria was the dominant power of the world. Babylon was a dependency of Assyria. Babylon rose to world power status and then fell in 539 B.C. Isaiah sang of the Fall of Babylon 100 years before its rise in 612 B.C. (Isa 13:1, 13:19, 14:22). Babylon's splendor as the Queen city of the pre-Christian world, "the glory of kingdoms" and "the city of gold" (Isa. 13:19, 14:4) was clearly envisioned. Babylon's fall is also pictured in detail, naming the unknown Medes as destroyers of Babylon. (Isa. 13:17-19). Babylon was to supersede Assyria (Isa 14:25), Media shall supersede Babylon (Isa 13:17); and Babylon shall pass away forever (Isa 12:19-22, 14:22-23, Dan 5:31).

The Persian Army took Babylon without a battle during the days of Nabonidas and his first son Belshazar.

Babylon, oppressor of God's Old Testament people, gave its name to the Apostate Church.

Revelation 17

Nebuchadnezzar'

The capital of Babylonia fell to the Persian King, Cyrus the Great on October 29 539 B.C. After 70 years of supremacy, the Babylonian empire, the "head of gold" in Daniel's statue, came to an end. ... The main entrance to Babylon was the Ishtar gate which can be visited today. Underneath King Nebuchadnezzar's name Saddam Hussein has had his name inscribed

Iraq, under Sadam Hussein, if successful would have gained control of half the known oil reserves of the world. The nations of the earth would not tolerate Iraq to have such a stranglehold on the international economy. They banded under American leadership to oust the Iraqi army out of Kuwait. In an effort to rally the Islamic nations to his cause, Hussein aimed his feared scud missiles mostly toward Israel, a non-participant in the war. Once again, Satan's hatred of Israel was shown and Israeli citizens had to run to shelters and don gas masks, not knowing what poisons might be hurled at them, as the scuds rained on their cities. A few years later Saddam was running for shelter and hiding.

Saddam falls

Saddam called himself The Successor of Nebuchadnezzar. The Bible records in Daniel 4:4 "I, Nebuchadnezzar, was living in my palace in comfort and prosperity. Daniel 4:29-30 Twelve months later, he was taking a walk on the flat roof of the royal palace in Babylon. As he looked out across the city, he said, `Just look at this great city of Babylon! I, by my own mighty power, have built this beautiful city as my royal residence and as an expression of my royal splendor.'Daniel 4:31 "While he was still speaking these words, a voice called down from heaven, `O King Nebuchadnezzar, this message is for you! You are no longer ruler of this kingdom.‚ Daniel 4:33 "That very same hour the prophecy was fulfilled, and Nebuchadnezzar was driven from human society. He ate grass like a cow, and he was drenched with the dew of heaven. He lived this way until his hair was as long as eagles' feathers and his nails were like birds' claws ... And so it has come to pass: Saddam Hussein followed in the footsteps of Nebuchadnezzar just as he himself predicted.

Babylon is a literal city. There is also a
second Babylon called Mystery (religious) Babylon (Revelation 17:5) a cult started by Nimrod and his queen, Semiramis. The Babylon Kings, who were descended from Nimrod, served as both king and priest of the Babylonian Mystery religion. As priests, they bore the title "Pontifex Maximus"  or "Supreme Pontiff," meaning "supreme pathfinder" or "bridge maker," representing "the path or connection between this life and the next. They ruled upon the throne (seat) of Nimrod. ............ THE FATE OF SPIRITUAL BABYLON - SEE BELOW

Ezekiel 26 - 28

Revelation 17 - 18

I will cause the noise of thy songs to cease; and the sound of thy harps shall be no more heard

The voice of harpers, and musicians, and of pipers, and trumpeters shall be heard no more at all in thee

The princes of the sea .
  Inhabited of seafaring men .
  Thy mariners, and thy pilots
All that handle the oar, the mariners and all the pilots of the sea

Every shipmaster, and all the company in ships, and sailors, and as many as trade by sea
All that had ships in the sea
Thy merchants were the great men of the earth

They shall take up a lamentation for thee .
Cause their voice to be heard against thee, and shall cry bitterly
They shall weep for thee with bitterness of heart and bitter wailing. And in their wailing they shall take up a lamentation for thee, and lament over thee
The merchants among the people shall hiss at thee

The merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her .
The kings of the earth ... shall bewail her, and lament for her

How art thou destroyed

In one hour is she made desolate

The renowned city

That great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth

I shall bring up the deep upon thee, and great waters shall cover thee
Thou shall be broken by the seas in the depths of the waters

A great millstone ... cast ... into the sea. ... Thus ... shall that great city Babylon be thrown down .

Thou shall be no more: though thou be sought for, yet shalt thou never be found again

Found no more at all

A merchant of the people
The merchants among the people

The merchants ... were made rich by her
Thy merchants were the great men of the earth .

Thy merchandise

The merchandise.

Cast up dust upon their heads ... wallow themselves in the ashes

Thy cast dust on their heads

What city is like Tyrus?

What city is like unto this great city!

  Thou didst enrich the kings
  Kings shall be sore afraid

  The kings of the earth
The merchants which were made rich by her

Thine heart is lifted up because of thy riches .

She hath glorified herself and lived deliciously
  So great riches

I will bring strangers upon thee. the terrible of the nations.

He gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon
In righteousness he doth judge and make war

Therefore will I bring forth a fire from the midst of thee. it shall devour thee, and I will bring thee to ashes upon the earth

  Burn her with fire
She shall be utterly burned with fire
The smoke of her burning .

THE HANDWRITING ON THE WALL

The last king to reign in Babylon was Belshazzar, who celebrated the pagan Babylonian ritual using the sacred Jewish Temple vessels which his father, King Nebuchadnezzar, confiscated from the Jewish Temple in 587 B.C. Later that night the Persian Emperor Cyrus conquered Babylon and forced the Babylonian princes to flee to Pergamum.

King Belshazzar made a great feast for his lords, his wives, and his concubines They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold and silver, bronze, iron, wood, and stone. Immediately the fingers of a man's hand appeared and wrote on the plaster of the wall of the king's palace, opposite the lampstand; and the king saw the hand as it wrote. Then the king's color changed, and his thoughts alarmed him; his limbs gave way, and his knees knocked together....Then from his presence the hand was sent, and this writing was inscribed. And this is the writing that was inscribed: MENE, MENE, TEKEL, AND PARSIN. This is the interpretation of the matter: MENE, God has numbered the days of your kingdom and brought it to an end; TEKEL, you have been weighed in the balances and found wanting; PERES, your kingdom is divided and given to the Medes and Persians....That very night Belshazzar the Chaldean king was slain.

For centuries, Pergamum remained the site of Nimrod's seat or throne. With the appearance of Christianity, Babylonian paganism threatened the early Christian church of Pergamum as related in Revelation 3:12,13 a... "And to the angel of the church in Pergamum write: 'The words of him who has the sharp two-edged sword.' I know where you dwell, where Satan's throne is [ Nimrod's ]; you hold fast my name and you did not deny my faith even in the days of Antipas my witness, my faithful one, who was killed among you, where Satan dwells.

They continued their reign there until 133 B.C. when Attalus III, the last Babylonian King to rule in Pergamum, willed his dominions to the Roman Caesar, and the kingdom of Pergamum merged with the Roman Empire along with Nimrod's throne and the title "Pontifex Maximus."130 In 63 B.C., Julius Caesar, who had been elected Pontifex Maximus, became emperor of Rome and vested the office of Roman emperor with the priestly powers and functions of the Babylonian Pontiff.  Henceforth, the title Pontifex Maximus was used by the Roman Caesars as illustrated on a Roman coin depicting the image of Augustus Caesar (27 B.C.-14 A.D.) with his title "Pont. Max.," which is an abbreviation of Pontifex Maximus. Thus, the Roman emperors, like the preceding Babylonian emperors, now served as priests of Babylonian paganism, and bore the title Pontifex Maximus.

At the Council of Nicea in 325 A.D. the Universal or Roman Catholic Church was formed. Emperor Constantine then required the Roman armies to carry a shield with a cross.

The architect of the Tower of Babel.

Nimrod, from the Hebrew "marad" or "we will rebel," was the son of Cush and a mighty hunter before the Lord born in Ethiopia - Genesis 10:9.. Nimrod established the first Kingdom in Babylon and later extended it to Nineveh in Assyria. He also established the first Universal false religion "before the Lord" or openly in the presence of God and defied God to send another Flood

The Greek historian Herodotus, the 'Father of History,' visited it between 484 - c.424 BC. and said "It has a solid central tower, one furlong square, with a second erected on top of it and then a third, and so on up to eight. All eight towers can be climbed by a spiral way running around the outside, and about halfway up there are seats for those who make the journey to rest on."

The tower of Babel, discovered in 1876, was originally 300 feet high and 300 feet square with 8 stories or platforms. (the ruins are only 150 feet high) The tower was finished but the city was not. ... An ancient Babylonian tablet reads "The buiding of this illustrious tower offended the gods and they threw down what was built. They scattered them abroad and made strange their speech" The tower was rebuilt IN 605 B.C. by Nebuchadnezzar who inscribed these words ""I have completed its magnificence with silver, gold, other metals, stone, enameled bricks, fir and pine. The first which is the house of the earth's base, the most ancient monument of Babylon; I built and finished it. I have highly exalted its head with bricks covered with copper. We say for the other, that is, this edifice, the house of the seven lights of the earth, the most ancient monument of Borsippa. A former king built it, but he did not complete its head. Since a remote time, people had abandoned it, without order expressing their words. Since that time the earthquake and the thunder had dispersed the sun-dried clay. The bricks of the casing had been split, and the earth of the interior had been scattered in heaps. Merodach, the great god, excited my mind to repair this building. I did not change the site nor did I take away the foundation. In a fortunate month, in an auspicious day, I undertook to build porticoes around the crude brick masses, and the casing of burnt bricks. I adapted the circuits, I put the inscription of my name in the Kitir of the portico. I set my hand to finish it. And to exalt its head. As it had been in ancient days, so I exalted its summit."

In Histori Romani Scriptorium Justin states, "Ninus ( Nimrod ) strengthened the greatness of his acquired dominion by continued possession. Having subdued, therefore, his neighbors, when, by an accession of forces, being still further strengthened, he went forth against other tribes, and every new victory paved the way for another, he subdued all the peoples of the east."

The Woman sitting upon the Beast in Revelation
And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.

The picture on the EU symbol is that of the Goddess Europa, who according to Greek mythology, rode on the back of a bull.( actually Zeus in disguise ).... But what has this got to do with Bible prophecy?

This is how the Apostle John describes the identity of the Beast, the last world empire in...Revelation 17:

[1] And there came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying unto me, Come hither; I will shew unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters:

[2] With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication.

On the back of the EU postage stamp above and the Greek Euro, we have exactly the same image as the Apostle John describes below. A woman, arrayed in purple and scarlet, sitting on a beast, with a cup in her hand. This reveals the identity of the woman and the beast she rides as the EU, The Revived Roman Empire

[3] So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns.

[4] And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication:

[5] And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.

Papal coin from Leo XII with the legend around the woman, "Sedet super universum," "The whole world is her seat."

Babylon is a literal city. There is also a second Babylon called Mystery (religious) Babylon (Revelation 17:5) a cult started by Nimrod and his queen, Semiramis. The Babylon Kings, who were descended from Nimrod, served as both king and priest of the Babylonian Mystery religion. They ruled upon the throne (seat) of Nimrod the grand distinguishing feature of the ancient Babylonian system was the Chaldean "MYSTERIES," that formed so essential a part of that system. The Chaldean Mysteries can be traced up to the days of Semiramis the wife of Nimrod, who lived only a few centuries after the flood, and who is known to have impressed upon them the image of her own depraved and polluted mind. The cup of Semiramis, which fell into the hands of the victorious Cyrus. Its gigantic proportions must have made it famous among the Babylonians and the nations. It weighed fifteen talents,... THE FATE OF THE WOMAN AND THE BEAST

[6] And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration.

[7] And the angel said unto me, Wherefore didst thou marvel? I will tell thee the mystery of the woman, and of the beast that carrieth her, which hath the seven heads and ten horns.

[8] The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is.

[9] And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth.

[10] And there are seven kings: five are fallen, and one is, and the other is not yet come; and when he cometh, he must continue a short space.

[11] And the beast that was, and is not, even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth into perdition.

[12] And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast.

10 Nations of WEU:Belgium, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Luxemburg The Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, United Kingdom

( Dec. 10, 2004 - There are now 28 member states in the European Union (EU), but there are still only 10 in the Western European Union. They are the first ten of the member states and the most powerful ones as well. The WEU is a ten-nation core of powerful European states in charge of maintaining Europe's military security. It controls NATO, the world's most powerful military alliance and it insists on retaining a separate identity to keep its voice from being diluted by that of the greater EU. .... In the light of Biblical prophecy that the final world government would begin with "ten kings," this is a most interesting fact. ....Source:Jack Kinsella - Omega Letter..)

[13] These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast.

[14] These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.

[15] And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues.

[16] And the ten horns which thou sawest upon the beast, these shall hate the whore, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire.

[17] For God hath put in their hearts to fulfil his will, and to agree, and give their kingdom unto the beast, until the words of God shall be fulfilled.

[18] And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth.

Riding on a sea of peoples ..... Revelation 17:15
And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues.

This last world empire will be a multi-lingual confederacy. No other regional bloc has more diverse languages and cultures than that of Europe. Even the European Parliament building was designed to look like a modern day tower of Babel, (as seen below) where God previously confounded the languages of all men back in Genesis 11:9.

The Holy Spirit adds further emphasis on the blood, revealing that it is also a picture of how the woman has martyred the true saints of God, so much so that she is now become drunk on their blood. One of the bloodiest times in the Roman Empire was during the time the book of Revelation was written, when millions of Christians were killed for entertainment, and sent into the catacombs of Rome with conditions so dank, life expectancy was only around six months..... The image is full of Babylonian symbolism. The woman represents Semiramis, the ancient Babylonian Madonna. The rays emanating from her head represent Nimrod, whom the ancient Babylonians believed died, and was transformed into the Sun. Babylonians believed Semiramis was conceived by the Sun, and gave birth to Tamuz, a reincarnation of Nimrod.

Europa is a great city that rules over kings .... Revelation 17:18
And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth.

Rome has literally ruled over kings for centuries ( William the Conqueror, the Spanish inquisition, the Huguenots, etc), and still desires today to maintain her Holy Roman Empire.

The Mark of the Beast

"And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand, The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:" -Revelation 14:9-10

The United States Food and Drug Administration said Wednesday that Applied Digital Solutions of Delray Beach, Fla., could market the VeriChip, an implantable computer chip about the size of a grain of rice, for medical purposes..... With the pinch of a syringe, the microchip is inserted under the skin in a procedure that takes less than 20 minutes and leaves no stitches. Silently and invisibly, the dormant chip stores a code that releases patient-specific information when a scanner passes over it. .... Microchips have already been implanted in 1 million pets. But the chip's possible dual use for tracking people's movements has raised alarm.

MEXICO CITY, MEXICO - Security for Mexico's attorney general and at least 160 people in his office have been implanted with microchips that get them access to secure areas of their headquarters. Mexico's top federal prosecutors began receiving chip implants in their arms in November in order to get access to restricted areas inside the attorney general's headquarters, said Antonio Aceves, general director of Solusat, the company that distributes the microchips in Mexico.

At a global security conference held on November 21, 2003, in Paris, an American company, Applied Digital Solutions, announced a new syringe-injectable microchip "VeriPay" implant for humans, designed to be used as a fraud-proof payment method for cash and credit-card transactions.  The chip implant is being presented as an advance over credit cards and smart cards, which are subject to theft, resulting in identity fraud. ... Cashless payment systems are now part of a larger technology development subset: government identification experiments that seek to combine cashless payment applications with national ID information on media (such as a "smart" card), which contain a whole host of government, personal, employment and commercial data and applications on a single, contactless RFID chip.  "We are the only ones out there offering implantable ID technology," said Silverman, who announced the "VeriPay" service during a speech at ID World 2003 in Paris. "We believe the market will evolve to use our product."

Nimrod invents banking

Banking was developed in Babylon. Once relative values were placed on commodities (like cattle, grains or craft), silver and gold became accepted as a store of values and convenient means of exchange. In order to guarantee the safety of their wealth, Nimrod, the priest-king, offered the temple vaults and protection of the gods as security for the treasure of his citizens. Observing that the bulk of deposits remained in the vaults at any one time, he developed the lucrative concept of fractional reserve banking.

This device was the key to unparalleled prosperity and unbounded influence. Nimrod explained and franchised his scheme to certain trusted commoners who were licensed to take deposits and lend gold from the temple vaults at 20% interest. Nimrod's next innovation was to issue clay tablet receipts in the value of the gold, and sealed with the high priest's signet as legal tender. A precursor of today's paper money. Safer and easier to carry than bullion, it quickly gained acceptance.

Josephus (Ant. Jud.) says: "2. Now it was Nimrod who excited them to such an affront and contempt of God. He was the grandson of Ham, the son of Noah, a bold man, and of great strength of hand. He persuaded them not to ascribe it to God, as if it was through his means they were happy, but to believe that it was their own courage which procured that happiness. He also gradually changed the government into tyranny, seeing no other way of turning men from the fear of God, but to bring them into a constant dependence on his power. He also said he would be revenged on God, if God should have a mind to drown the world again; for that he would build a tower too high for the waters to be able to reach! and that he would avenge himself on God for destroying their forefathers !

3. Now the multitude were very ready to follow the determination of Nimrod, and to esteem it a piece of cowardice to submit to God; and they built a tower, neither sparing any pains, nor being in any degree negligent about the work: and, by reason of the multitude of hands employed in it, it grew very high, sooner than any one could expect; but the thickness of it was so great, and it was so strongly built of burnt brick, cemented together with mortar, made of bitumen, that it might not be liable to admit water."

Following the death of Nimrod, his heathen form of worship was continued by his wife, Queen Semiramis. She claimed that her husband had become the Sun god, and was to be worshipped. Queen Semiramis conceived through adultery and gave birth to an illegitimate son whom she named Tammuz and declared that he was actually Nimrod reborn, and that he had been supernaturally conceived by the Sun God and declared herself the Queen of Heaven. Israel, when it fell into apostasy, worshipped Ashteroth, who was also known to the Jews as the "Queen of Heaven", the title first used of Semiramis. Jeremiah 44:17-19 She is symbolically called Jezebel in the letters to the seven churches.

In 2150 B.C. Queen Semiramis built a tunnel below the Euphrates River linking the royal palace of Babylon with the Temple of Jupiter. In his deified form, Nimrod the Sun god is known as Baal. Semiramis, as the female divinity, would be called Baalti.

This area, in which we are now fighting a military battle, is God's land and where He began MANKIND. Its original people, from whom Abraham was called were descendants of Shem, Noah's son. The Garden of Eden was located near the junction of four rivers --the Pishon, the Gihon, the Hiddekel, and the Euphrates. These were real rivers which existed before Noah's flood. The now-dry Wadi al Batin was the Pishon River, the Gihon was the Karun River, and the Hiddekel (Tigris) and Euphrates Rivers flowed in approximately the same course as they occupy today in Modern Day Iraq.

The Tower of Babel was built in the city of Babylon, Capitol of the ancient Babylonian Empire one hour south of Baghdad in Iraq. ... Genesis 11:4 Let's build a great city with a tower that reaches to the skies--a monument to our greatness! This will bring us together and keep us from scattering all over the world."

Abraham was from Ur, which is in the south of Iraq. ... Nehemiah 9:7 "You are the LORD God, who chose Abram and brought him from Ur of the Chaldeans and renamed him Abraham.

Isaac's wife Rebekah was from Iraq ( Mesopotamia ) ... Genesis 24:4 He traveled to Aram-naharaim and went to the village where Abraham's brother Nahor had settled.

Jacob met Rachel in Haran which is in the southern part of Iraq. ... Genesis 29:4 Jacob went over to the shepherds and asked them, "Where do you live?" "At Haran," they said.

Jonah preached in Nineveh, which is the current city of Mosul in Iraq. ... Jonah 3:1-2 Then the LORD spoke to Jonah a second time: "Get up and go to the great city of Nineveh, and deliver the message of judgment I have given you."

Daniel was in the lion's den in Al Hillah in Iraq ... Daniel 6:19-22 Very early the next morning, the king hurried out to the lions' den. When he got there, he called out in anguish, "Daniel, servant of the living God! Was your God, whom you worship continually, able to rescue you from the lions?" Daniel answered, "Long live the king! My God sent his angel to shut the lions' mouths so that they would not hurt me, for I have been found innocent in his sight. And I have not wronged you, Your Majesty."

Ezekiel was the Prophet to Israel during the Babylonian Captivity. His tomb is in Kifl, Iraq about 100 miles south of Baghdad ... Ezekiel 1:1 On July 31 of my thirtieth year while I was with the Judean exiles beside the Kebar River in Babylon, the heavens were opened to me, and I saw visions of God.

The Tomb of Ezra the Scribe is located in Southern Iraq... three hours' journey south from Bagdad and not far from the Tigris and is venerated equally by Jews and Arabs .

Matthew 2:1-2 Jesus was born in the town of Bethlehem in Judea, during the reign of King Herod. About that time Wise Men from eastern lands (Iraq or Mesopotamia) arrived in Jerusalem, asking, "Where is the newborn king of the Jews? We have seen his star as it arose, and we have come to worship him."
