Herod Beheads John in Prison

Fortress of Machaerous

At that time Herod the tetrarch heard of the fame of Jesus, And said to his servants, This is John the Baptist; he is risen from the dead; and therefore mighty works do show forth themselves in him.For Herod had laid hold on John, and bound him, and put him in prison for Herodias' sake, his brother Philip's wife. For John said to him, It is not lawful for you to have her. And when he would have put him to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a Prophet. But when Herod's birthday was kept, the daughter of Herodias danced before them, and pleased Herod. Then he promised with an oath to give her whatever she would ask. And she, being before instructed of her mother, said, Give me here John Baptist's head in a charger. And the king was sorry: nevertheless for the oath's sake, and them which sat with him at the party, he commanded it to be given her. And he sent, and beheaded John in the prison. And his head was brought in a charger, and given to the damsel: and she brought it to her mother. And John's disciples came, and took up the body, and buried it, and went and told Jesus. ... Matthew 14:1-12

The Twelve return and report to Jesus

And the Apostles, when they were returned, told him all that they had done. And he took them, and went aside privately into a desert place belonging to the city called Bethsaida. And the people, when they knew it, followed him: and he received them, and spoke to them of the Kingdom of God, and healed them that had need of healing. Luke 9:10-11

The Five Thousand Fed

After these things Jesus went over the sea of Galilee, which is the sea of Tiberias. And a great multitude followed him, because they saw his miracles which he did on them that were diseased. And Jesus went up into a mountain, and there he sat with his disciples. And the Passover, a Feast of the Jews, was near. When Jesus then lifted up his eyes, and saw a great company come unto him, he said to Philip, Where shall we buy bread, that these may eat? And this he said to test him: for he himself knew what he would do. Philip answered him, Two hundred pennyworth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may take a little. One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, said unto him, There is a lad here, which has five barley loaves, and two small fishes: but what are they among so many? And Jesus said, Make the men sit down.

Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand. And Jesus took the loaves; and when he had given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to them that were set down; and likewise of the fishes as much as they would. When they were filled, he said to his disciples, Gather up the fragments that remain, that nothing be lost. Therefore they gathered them together, and filled twelve baskets with the fragments of the five barley loaves, which remained over and above from them that had eaten .. .John 6:1-15

Jesus spends the night in prayer

Then those men, when they had seen the miracle that Jesus did, said, This is of a truth That Prophet that ( Moses spoke of ) should come into the world. When Jesus therefore perceived that they would come and take him by force, to make him a King, ...And Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side, while he sent the multitudes away. And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone.... John 6:14-15 ... Matt 14:22-23

 Jesus walking on the water

But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary. And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea. And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear. But straightway Jesus spoke unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid. And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be you, bid me come to you on the water. And he said, Come. And when Peter came down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus. But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand and caught him and said to him, O you of little faith, why did you doubt? And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased. Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth you are the Son of God. ... Matt 14:24-33

and they were amazed in themselves beyond measure, and wondered. For they considered not the miracle of the loaves: for their heart was hardened. Mark 6:51-52 ... Then they willingly received him into the ship: and immediately the ship was at the land where they were going. John 6:21

Gennesaret

And when they had passed over, they came into the land of Gennesaret, and drew to the shore. And when they came out of the ship, straightway they knew him, And ran through that whole region round about, and began to carry about in beds those that were sick, to where they heard he was. And wherever he entered, into villages, or cities, or country, they laid the sick in the streets, and besought him that they might touch if it were but the border of his garment: (Tallith ) and as many as touched him were made whole. .. Mark 6:53-56

I Am the Bread of Life you need - not more free meals

When the people saw that Jesus was not there, nor his disciples, they also took shipping, and came to Capernaum, seeking for Jesus. And when they had found him on the other side of the sea, they said to him, Rabbi, when did you come here? Jesus answered them and said, Truly, Truly, I say to you, You seek me, not because you saw the miracles, but because you did eat of the loaves, and were filled. (You want more free meals) Labor not for the food which perishes, but for that food which endures unto Everlasting Life, which the Son of man shall give to you: for him has God the Father sealed. Then said they to him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? Jesus answered and said to them, This is the work of God, that you believe on Him whom He has sent.

They said to him, What (further) sign will you show us then, that we may see, and believe you? what sign will you work ? Our fathers did eat manna in the desert; as it is written, He gave them bread from heaven to eat. ( continuously )

Manna - Bread from Heaven

Then Jesus said to them,Truly, Truly, I say unto you, Moses did not give you that bread from heaven; but my Father (now) gives you the True Bread from Heaven. For the Bread of God is He which comes down from heaven, and gives Life unto the world. Then said they to him, Lord, ever more give us this bread. And Jesus said to them, I am the bread of life: ... he that comes to me shall never hunger; and he that believes on me shall never thirst. But I said to you, That you have seen me, and believe not. All that the Father gives me shall come to me; and him that comes to me I will in no way cast out. For I came down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him that sent me. And this is the Father's will which has sent me, that of all which he has given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.

And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which sees the Son, and believes on him, may have everlasting Life: and I will raise him up at the last day. The Jews then murmured at him, because he said, I am the bread which came down from heaven. And they said, Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? how is it then that he said, I came down from heaven? Jesus answered and said to them, Murmur not among yourselves. No man can come to me, except the Father which has sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day. It is written in the Prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that has heard, and has learned of the Father, comes to me. Not that any man has seen the Father, save he which is of God, he has seen the Father. Truly, Truly, I say to you, He that believes on me has everlasting Life. ... John 6:24-47
